Samsung has officially begun rolling out One UI 9, its Android 17 based software, to a growing list of Galaxy devices. The update lands roughly three months after Android 17 first debuted on Google Pixel phones.
The Galaxy S26 Lineup Leads the Rollout
Samsung’s stable release starts with the Galaxy S26, S26+ and S26 Ultra. Newer devices like the Galaxy S26 FE, along with the foldable Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, Z Fold 8 and Z Flip 8, are already shipping with Android 17 built in from the factory.
What’s New in One UI 9
Three features stand out in this update. NowNudge lets users take context aware actions right from a chat thread, so if a conversation mentions dinner plans or an event, you can book it or add it to your calendar without leaving the app. NowBrief pulls together daily essentials such as sleep data, weather, upcoming appointments and podcast suggestions into a single customizable summary. My FanCam is aimed at video shooters, automatically keeping a chosen subject centered in frame to reduce shakiness.
Samsung has also added a “Warranty and Care” section in settings, letting users check device warranty status and run diagnostics on any issues.
On the security side, a new Security Brief tool flags malware warnings, apps from unverified sources and permissions that seem excessive. AI powered privacy alerts also warn users when an app or third party may be trying to access personal data without permission. Most of these tools do require signing into a Samsung account to work.
Other Devices Still Waiting for the Update
Beyond the S26 series, Samsung is expected to extend One UI 9 to the Galaxy S25 line, the Z7 foldables and eventually the S24 series in the weeks ahead. In Thailand, Samsung has already confirmed the S25 and Z7 devices will start receiving the update from September 28, although that timeline hasn’t been confirmed for other markets yet.
Galaxy S23 owners aren’t left out either. They’re expected to get One UI 9 by around October, though this will mark the final major OS update for that model. According to the same Thailand announcement, the S23 FE is included in that October timeframe too.
As for the Galaxy S22 series, it has already received its last major software upgrade and will now only get ongoing security patches.
How to Install the Update
Most eligible devices will receive the update automatically along with a notification. To check manually, head to Settings, then Software Update, then tap Download and Install.
