Apple has rolled out a new privacy option in iOS 27 that lets iPhone users temporarily stop sharing their location without raising obvious red flags. The “Hide Location” feature is designed to give users more control over who can see where they are.
In the past, stopping location sharing in iMessage triggered a gray notification that made it pretty clear something had changed. With this update, that notification no longer appears. Instead, the person you are hiding your location from would only notice if they deliberately opened Find My or looked at the map.
From their end, your location simply shows up as “No Location Found” and “Off-Network.” This is the same message they would normally see if your phone was powered off or out of cellular coverage, so it blends in naturally.
According to Apple, this feature comes in handy in everyday situations. For example, you might use it while secretly organizing a surprise party, or when you are out running an errand and do not want to accidentally ruin a surprise for someone close to you.
The update reflects Apple’s ongoing push to give users more granular privacy controls, letting people decide exactly who gets access to their location and when.
