Galaxy S26 owners testing One UI 9 finally have a fresh build to install after nearly a month of silence between major beta releases. Reports of One UI 9 Beta 5 started surfacing on August 12, with the update reaching Galaxy S26 series testers in India first.
This release comes after Beta 4, which launched on July 14, and keeps Samsung’s Android 17 testing program moving along while Galaxy S26, S26+, and S26 Ultra owners continue waiting for the stable version of One UI 9.
Samsung originally kicked off the One UI 9 beta program back in May for the Galaxy S26 lineup. The program officially covers Germany, India, South Korea, Poland, the UK, and the US, though individual beta builds don’t always reach these markets at the same time.
A Nearly Month Long Gap Finally Ends
This fifth beta arrives after an unusually long pause in the S26 testing cycle. Testers waited roughly four weeks between Beta 4 on July 14 and the first Beta 5 reports on August 12.
Beta 4 came with firmware ending in ZZG4, included the July 5 security patch, and weighed in at around 1.25GB. Its changelog mostly addressed fixes for the lock screen, Quick Panel, navigation bar, notifications, Bluetooth routines, and several other interface related issues rather than introducing major new features.
That extended wait made Beta 5 feel like a bigger deal than usual, especially considering Samsung had already moved newer Galaxy devices onto the stable version of One UI 9 in the meantime.
Beta 5 Is Now Starting to Appear
An August 12 report from a Galaxy S26 Ultra beta tester confirmed Beta 5 arriving in India, carrying firmware ending in ZZH6. Samsung hasn’t shared a detailed country by country rollout schedule for this build, so availability could vary depending on the market.
Galaxy S26 owners already signed up for the beta program can check for the update manually by going to Settings, then Software update, then Download and install. Anyone who hasn’t joined Samsung’s beta program shouldn’t expect Beta 5 to show up as a regular stable update.
Don’t Expect Major New Features This Time
At this point in the beta cycle, Beta 5 is really more about polish and refinement rather than delivering another wave of headline features.
One UI 9 originally introduced a more customizable Quick Panel, new tools within Samsung Notes, accessibility improvements, and additional security protections when testing first began back in May. Since then, later betas have shifted focus toward fixing bugs and improving overall stability instead.
That makes Beta 5 most valuable for people who are already running an earlier test build and waiting for lingering issues to get resolved, rather than for users hoping for a completely redesigned interface.
As is the case with any prerelease software, some bugs may still be present. Anyone using their Galaxy S26 as their main phone should weigh the benefits of early access against the possibility of running into app compatibility issues or general instability.
Stable One UI 9 Is Already Live, Just Not for the S26 Yet
The bigger question at this point is when the Galaxy S26 series will actually graduate from beta testing altogether.
Samsung already unveiled the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Z Fold8, and Z Flip8 back on July 22, with both Android 17 and One UI 9 preinstalled right out of the box, putting these newer devices ahead of the S26 lineup in Samsung’s overall software rollout.
Samsung hasn’t announced an official public release date for stable One UI 9 on the Galaxy S26, S26+, or S26 Ultra, and it also hasn’t confirmed whether Beta 5 will end up being the final test build before that stable release arrives.
For now, Beta 5 finally closes the long gap that followed July’s fourth release. What Galaxy S26 owners are still missing, though, is the one date that matters most, exactly when stable One UI 9 will officially land on their phones.
