Industrial action is sweeping UK aviation this autumn, with three separate disputes threatening disruption from Scotland to Portugal. Here is every walkout on the calendar, what it means for your trip, and how to protect yourself.
Loganair cabin crew ballot: 8 to 27 October
More than 60 Loganair cabin crew, based at Aberdeen, Dundee, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Inverness, the Isle of Man and Southampton, are voting on strike action in a pay dispute. The Unite union says crew rejected a final offer tabled before genuine negotiations began.
No strike dates are set yet. If the vote passes, the union must give statutory notice before any walkout, so there is still time for talks.
Leeds Bradford Airport: 16 to 18 October
Nearly 130 workers at Leeds Bradford Airport, including air traffic control, security, customer service and cleaning staff, will strike from 16 October until 6am on 18 October. Unite says pay talks since December 2025 have not gone far enough.
If it goes ahead, no flights will be able to land or take off during the stoppage. The airport handles around 4.5 million passengers a year.
easyJet Portugal: 19 to 23 December
Portuguese cabin crew will strike from 19 to 23 December, days before Christmas, after a five-day October stoppage that put 500 flights at risk and cancelled 35 UK return services. Airports with UK links to Lisbon, Porto and Faro are exposed, including Gatwick, Luton, Manchester, Bristol and Edinburgh.
What to do if your flight is hit
- Wait for the airline to cancel before rebooking yourself, or compensation claims get harder
- You are entitled to a refund or rerouting, plus care including meals and hotels
- For strikes by the airline’s own staff, fixed cash compensation applies: up to 400 euros under EU261 or 520 pounds under UK261 on most European routes
- Keep every receipt and screenshot all airline communications
- Make sure your contact details are up to date so the airline can reach you
We are tracking all three disputes and will update this page as dates are confirmed or called off.
