Spring Street Pizza Bar: Borough’s Martini-Focused Cocktail Bar Opens 13 October

The team behind Spring Street Pizza opens Spring Street Pizza Bar on Tuesday 13 October, a 2,500 sq ft, 200-capacity New York Italian-American cocktail bar in the railway arch next to the pizza parlour at Arch 32-33, Southwark Quarter, Southwark Street.

South London’s first dedicated martini list

The headline is the martini list, said to be South London’s first dedicated one, with six martinis including an Olive Oil Martini with pizza brine and a Buffalo Cheese Martini. Italian wines, beers and spritzes round out the drinks, and a separate food menu covers crudo, fritti, house meatballs with red sauce and Mortadella sliders. The pizza itself stays next door.

The chef

Spring Street Pizza comes from Michelin-starred chef Tom Kemble, formerly of Hedone and Bonham’s, so the cooking behind the bar snacks is serious. The arch setting gives it the right mix of grit and polish for Borough’s late-night scene.

Borough already has plenty of places to eat. A proper cocktail bar with a martini list this considered is a different proposition, and it opens just in time for autumn drinking season.
