Naples Airport Closes for All of November 2026: A UK Traveller’s Guide

david

Naples Capodichino Airport will close completely to commercial flights for the whole of November 2026, from 1 to 30 November, for major runway renovation works. If you are planning a trip to Naples, the Amalfi Coast or southern Italy next month, here is everything you need to know.

Why the airport is closing

Airport operator GESAC confirmed the full-month closure for what it calls radical runway requalification works. The 19.4 million euro project involves a complete overhaul of the runway and taxiway system, and was deliberately scheduled for November, historically the quietest month for air traffic, to minimise disruption.

Naples is Italy’s fourth-busiest airport, handling more than 13 million passengers a year, so the closure affects a huge number of travellers. The airport reopens on 1 December 2026.

Where flights are going instead

Salerno Costa d’Amalfi Airport, around 60 kilometres south-east of Naples, will serve as the replacement hub during the closure.

Airlines are handling the shutdown in two ways. easyJet, Vueling, Iberia, flydubai, Transavia and Eurowings are rerouting their Naples services to Salerno, while the Lufthansa Group is suspending all Naples flights for the month and automatically rebooking passengers via Rome Fiumicino.

What UK travellers should do

If you hold a booking into or out of Naples for November 2026, treat it as changed and check your airline’s portal now to confirm whether your flight has been moved to Salerno, rebooked via Rome, or cancelled.

  • If rerouted to Salerno, allow extra time. The airport is about an hour from Naples by road, and you can connect via the Salerno Airlink bus or official fixed-fare taxis to rail stations for onward travel
  • If rebooked via Rome Fiumicino, you will need to take a train or bus down to the Campania region. In some cases you may be able to claim the cost of onward rail or bus transport
  • Do not book new flights to Naples for November. If you have not booked yet, look at Salerno or Rome instead
  • Travellers heading for the Amalfi Coast may actually find Salerno more convenient, as it sits closer to the coast road than Naples airport

Your rights

If your flight is cancelled or significantly changed, you are entitled to a full refund or rerouting. Keep all receipts for extra transport costs, as you may be able to claim these back after completing your journey. Check any communications from your airline carefully, since some flights now depart from Salerno under the airport code QSR rather than Naples.
